European facility

In collaboration with the Research Centres ULTRAS-INFM e IFN-CNR, a facility named Centre for Ultrafast Science and Biomedical Optics (CUSBO) has been established at the Department. This facility includes the activities in the field of ultrashort laser sources, non-linear optics, high intensity laser-matter interactions, ultrafast processes in quantum confined materials, non invasive characterization of biological tissues, wide band fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging techniques in scattering media.

CUSBO is belonging to the network of European Facilities "LASERLAB-EUROPE" funded by European Union within the VI Framework Program. The network includes seventeen large scale infrastructures belonging to nine european nations with the aim of:

• providing in a coordinated manner advanced instrumentations to european research groups;
• reinforcing the role of Europe in the field of laser research and improving the quality of the participating laboratories by projects related to instrumentation development.

CUSBO is able to host about ten research projects per year corresponding in an average of twenty european users.
