Giulio Cerullo, Full Professor of Experimental Physics of Matter and Applications at the Department of Physics of the Politecnico di Milano, has been elected as one of the new members of the Academia Europaea for 2026.
Founded in 1988, the Academia Europaea brings together scholars from the humanities, sciences and technology with the aim of promoting academic research of excellence and fostering the advancement of knowledge and education at an international level.
Giulio Cerullo’s scientific work focuses on the fields of laser physics, non-linear optics and the physics of matter. Over the course of his career, he has published over 600 papers in international journals and has been invited to deliver more than 100 presentations at international scientific conferences.
In 2011, he was awarded an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council and, in 2025, a Synergy Grant for the development of advanced ultrafast spectroscopy techniques. He is also a corresponding member of the Accademia dei Lincei and coordinates the STRATUS (femtosecond laser laboratory) and CLARK (ultrafast IR-VIS spectroscopy laboratory) laboratories within the Department of Physics.
Among the new members elected in 2026 is Pierangelo Metrangolo, full professor at the “Giulio Natta” Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano.
The official presentation of the new members will take place during the Academia Europaea’s annual conference, scheduled to be held in Budapest from 12 to 16 October.
