Ten years after Giulio Regeni’s disappearance, the Politecnico di Milano is organising an event dedicated to the memory of the young researcher.
On 13 May at 4.30 pm, in the Aula De Donato, there will be a screening of the documentary “Giulio Regeni. All the Evil in the World”, produced by Fandango and Ganesh Produzioni. This will be followed by a debate on the themes of freedom of study and research.
The event forms part of the national initiative “Universities for Giulio Regeni”, promoted by Senator for Life and scientist Elena Cattaneo, which the Politecnico di Milano has also joined. The project involves 76 Italian universities, with a series of events between April and May 2026 dedicated to academic freedom, beginning with the screening of the documentary directed by Simone Manetti and written by Emanuele Cava and Matteo Billi.
Programme:
- 16.30 – Institutional greetings
- 16.45 – Video message from Giulio Regeni’s parents, Paola Deffendi and Claudio Regeni. Followed by: screening of the documentary (duration: 100 minutes)
- 6.35 pm – Debate: “There is no research without freedom” with Alessandra Ballerini (lawyer for the Regeni family), Emanuele Cava (co-author of the documentary) and Mario Calabresi (journalist).
The event will be moderated by Paolo Biagioni, Vice-Chair of the Joint Guarantee Committee (CUG) at the Politecnico di Milano.
