NICEST: Politecnico di Milano within the European Network for Precision Spectroscopy

Politecnico di Milano participates in the European project NICEST, a prestigious Doctoral Network funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) of Horizon Europe, one of Europe’s most competitive programmes for doctoral training and cutting-edge research.

The project combines advanced scientific development with the training of young researchers in a highly international and interdisciplinary environment.

Project organisation and objectives

Coordinated by CNRS and running for 60 months, NICEST brings together an international consortium of universities, research centers, and industrial partners.

The project aims to develop next-generation spectroscopic tools based on frequency-combs technologies for the study of complex molecular processes in the gas phase.

The technologies developed within the project will enable significant advances in astrochemistry, atmospheric monitoring, and sustainable industrial processes, further strengthening Politecnico di Milano’s role in innovation research and in the education of a new generation of European researchers.

An international network for research and doctoral training

The scientific coordinator of the project at Politecnico di Milano is Davide Gatti, Associate Professor of Physics, who will contribute both to the development of the scientific activities and to the training of the doctoral candidates within the network, fostering a close integration between research and advanced education.

The network also includes seven other European institutions and a company, coordinated by Lucile Rutkowski of the Institute of Physics of Rennes.

The core of the project: doctoral training

A key element of NICEST is the training of 11 doctoral candidates through a Joint Doctorate programme. The programme includes research periods at different international partner institutions, promoting mobility and the development of interdisciplinary skills through close interaction between academia and industry.
