"Bond Softening Revisited - Strong-Field Photodissociation of H2+ in Two-Colour Cross-Polarized Laser Fields"

Single-colour strong-field photodissociation of H2+ has been well studied in the early days of strong-field physics.  The dominant photodissociation mechanism is typically understood as a field-induced avoided crossing between the Sigma_g (ground electronic surface) and the Sigma_u (first excited electronic surface) in the Floquet basis of electronic states.  In this work, photodissociation of H2+ is studied using a novel laser setup comprised of a 2.3 micron laser cross-polarized with a 730 nm laser fields.  Unexpected and striking angular structures are observed in the proton momentum spectrum following photodissociation of H2+. These angular structures are explained using an extended two-colour Floquet analysis.
