Prof. Ilkka Nissinen (Oulu university, Finland)

"Raman spectroscopy utilizing a time resolving CMOS SPAD line sensor with a
pulsed laser excitation"

Ilkka Nissinen received the M.Sc. (Eng.) and Dr. Tech. degrees in electrical engineering from the University
of Oulu, Finland, in 2002 and 2011, respectively. Since 2018, he has been an Associate Professor of Analogue
and Mixed-Signal Microelectronic Circuit Design with the Circuits and Systems Research Unit, University of
Oulu. He is PI of two project funded by Academy of Finland, Single-photon detector array for simultaneous
label-free Raman and fluorescence lifetime spectroscopy (2018-2021) and Development of a time resolving
CMOS single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) sensor enabling a depth resolving Raman radar (9/2019-
8/2023). His research interest includes the development of time-resolving SPAD sensor arrays for a pulsed
Raman spectroscopy and other measurement methods.

Prof. Jan Nissinen (Oulu university, Finland)

"CMOS SPAD arrays and laser drivers for time domain diffuse optics and 3D TOF imaging"

Jan Nissinen received Dr.Tech. degree and Title of Docent in electrical engineering from the University of Oulu, Finland, in 2011 and 2018, respectively. He has been a Postdoctoral Researcher with the Circuits and Systems Research Unit, University of Oulu, since 2011. His research interests include designing of analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for pulsed time-of-flight laser rangefinders, pulsed Raman spectroscopy and time-domain diffuse optics. He has designed or co-designed over 16 mixed-signal ASICs in the area of TOF laser range finding, SPAD arrays for Raman spectroscopy and miniaturized CMOS laser driver. He is PI of Academy of Finland project 2020-2024 (~500k€) and Business Finland project 2021-2022 (~700k€). Both of the projects are focused on developing a single IC transceiver for time-correlated single-photon counting applications.
