Centri di Ricerca

The Department of Physics was established with the aim of conducting experimental and theoretical scientific research in the field of the Physics of Matter and contributing to the development of applications of this field in Physics, Engineering and Medicine.

01.

CNR-IFN

Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology

The Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology (IFN↗) belonging to the "Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche" (CNR) is based in Milan at the Department of Physics of the Polytechnic University of Milan and has four detached Territorial Sections in Rome, at the University of Bari, at the University of Padua and at the Bruno Kessler Foundation in Trento. Research activities include both basic studies and design, fabrication and characterization of advanced photonic devices.

02.

L-NESS

Laboratory for Epitaxial Nanostructures on Silicon and for Spintronics

The Interuniversity Center L-NESS↗ (Laboratory for Epitaxial Nanostructures on Silicon and for Spintronics) established with the University of Milano-Bicocca↗ through contributions from the Lombardy Region↗) and the Cariplo Foundation↗) is active at the campus located in Como. LNESS activities concern the growth and characterization of nanostructured materials for devices dedicated to the new technologies of microelectronics, photonics and spintronics as well as the study of lattice defects in the development of self-organized nanostructures.

03.

PoliFAB

PoliFAB

PoliFAB↗ is the new micro and nanotechnology facility of Politecnico di Milano.
It provides high-tech equipment and processes, useful to all departments, with a wide range of applications such as rapid prototyping of innovative devices in the fields of photonics, micromechanics, spintronics, magnetic devices, and organic electronics.

04.

CUSBO

Center for Ultrafast Science and Biomedical Optics

The Center for Ultrafast Science and Biomedical Optics (CUSBO) belongs to the European Network "LASERLAB-Europe↗".
CUSBO groups together the research activities performed at the Department of Physics of Politecnico of Milan in the field of lasers and spectroscopy in order to exploit their applicability in the areas of noninvasive clinical diagnostics, biological imaging and non-destructive analysis of food and cultural heritage.

05.

IIT-CNST

Italian Institute of Technology??

The Italian Institute of Technology is a scientific research center that includes the CNST↗ (Center for Nano Science and Technology), a node that fosters synergy in national research. The mission of the center is "innovation", in fact, it deals with applying new basic knowledge in new applications with a particular focus on materials science.
The CNST is able to conduct the complete production line, from conceiving and realizing a new material to its application in devices (solar cells, transistor and LEDs), through a comprehensive characterization.
The main areas of competence are: Materials Chemistry, Molecular Electronics, Printed Electronics and Nanotechnology Fabrication.
