Measuring the dispersion of spin waves in cuprate superconductors using Resonant Inealstic X-ray Scattering (RIXS) [ESRF & SLS]

We propose several projects on the subject of resonant x-ray spectroscopy, mainly using resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) and x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS). The experimental activity takes place at the ESRF and SLS synchrotrons, during few days long sessions; the preparation and the work of data analysis and interpretation is done in the Physics Department in Milano.

Here are some possible titles:

  • Modificatons of the paramagnon spectrum across Tc in underdoped YBCO studied with high resolution RIXS
  • The effect of stripe order on the phonon dispersion masured by high resolution RIXS
  • Mesurement by RIXS of the momentum dependent electron-phonon interaction in cuprates

Some information on RIXS of cuprate superconductors can be found in the attached articles.
For the students interested in a thesis project to be fully realized abroad the ESRF proposes every year several opportunities to be complted in 6 months in Grenoble. Here are some recent examples:
