Magnisense Project – Advanced Magnetic Sensing for Anti-Counterfeiting Applications

Counterfeiting of documents and goods is a growing global issue, fueling criminal and terrorist activities. Among existing protection strategies, machine-readable security features are crucial because their hidden characteristics can be detected only with dedicated sensors, enabling automatic authentication of genuine products.

Magnetic inks, characterized by specific and difficult-to-replicate magnetic signatures, are among the most effective solutions developed by the security printing industry. However, their large-scale use is currently limited by complex and costly manual quality-control procedures and by the need for precise control of operating conditions in existing magnetic-field measurement systems.

The Magnisense project addresses these limitations by developing a new magnetic-field measurement device and methodology based on state-of-the-art sensing technologies. The approach aims to ensure reliable, accurate detection of low-intensity magnetic fields without requiring strict distance control between the sensor and the printed target.

A combined hardware-and-software test platform will be designed to validate the proposed concept and analyze measurement data. The final goal is to enable robust, automated tools for the characterization and quality control of magnetic inks in security printing, enhancing document protection and brand authentication.
