Metasuperfici per la commutazione ultraveloce della luce e della sensoristica
Uno degli obiettivi dell’ottica è quello realizzare dispositivi ultraveloci capaci di trasmettere e manipolare l’informazione con tempi di commutazione limitati solo dal un ciclo ottico della luce (migliaia di attosecondi). Ciò è possibile sfruttando i processi ottici “non lineari”, nei quali un segnale ottico viene alterato dalla presenza di un secondo stimolo luminoso: processi che possono avvenire solo se mediati da specifici materiali.

Ricercatori ottengono sperimentalmente il controllo tutto-ottico ultraveloce del fronte di fase di fasci di luce. La modifica di fronti d’onda on-demand, dimostrata per la deflessione di un fascio e per la strutturazione del momento angolare orbitale di fotoni, è stata ottenuta su scale temporali dei femtosecondi in un sistema meta-ottico all’avanguardia, composto da un monostrato di combinato con una metasuperficie dielettrica.
